What happens?
York Residents Festival is the new name for Residents First Weekend.
More than 16 thousand residents take part annually in this unique and enormously successful event. The 2010 York Residents Festival will be bigger than ever as it connects the essential elements of previous years in a festival celebration of York as a home and visitor destination. It is an opportunity to celebrate the value of tourism to the local economy, the important contribution residents make to the tourism industry and experience why so many visitors come to York each year.
As well as the traditional free or heavily discounted entry to many of the City's attractions, The Festival will include a range of daytime and evening activities, such as live music, family entertainment, a special exhibition and shows, some of which may continue into the following week.
Who will enjoy it?
This Festivals is for York residents, young and old. Visitors, however, can also enjoy the free entertainment in the city centre over the weekend with local bands playing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Residents need a valid YORKCard to gain admission at each participating venue. The YORKCard is available free of charge to residents living within the City of York Council area from any City of York library.
